We live in a world where students are constantly overwhelmed with information, so finding effective ways to study is more important than ever. One of the most effective and science-backed techniques is spaced repetition, a method that helps people remember information for the long term by reviewing it at strategic intervals.
What is spaced repetition?
Spaced repetition is a learning technique that involves going over the information multiple times over increasing intervals of time. So you just have to look for the material just before you’re about to forget it. Starting by checking it right after learning it, then the next day, then a week later, each time increasing the time.This strengthens memory and improves retention.
The idea is based on the forgetting curve, a concept introduced by psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. His research showed that we forget information quickly if we don’t review it, but each review makes the memory stronger and longer-lasting. That's why the method is really useful, so we can use it to learn new languages, study for an exam, memorizing formulas and others.
In my opinion, spaced repetition is quite useful because it allows us to improve our memory without requiring much effort, avoiding stress and saving time. Furthermore, there are many apps that help you apply the technique correctly.
