Learning apps: A digital way to learn

In our actual world, learning is no longer limited to classrooms or textbooks. With just a smartphone, students can access powerful tools that make studying more interactive, flexible, and personalized. Learning apps have become essential for improving knowledge, so here I'll talk about some learning apps and how to use them.

What are learning apps?

Learning apps are digital platforms designed to help users study, practice, and master different subjects. They cover a wide range of areas, so they are a great way to learn. Also they have a lot of benefits like flexibility, personalization, engagement and instant feedback.

Some learning apps are:

Duolingo: An app for languages with short lessons of listening, translating and speaking. It uses the spaced repetition method in it's lessons.

Anki: An app in which you create digital flashcards with questions an it's answer. After you answer you rate difficult and depending on that, the question will appear later (easy) or sooner (hard).

Khan Academy: An app which offer free lessons and practice exercises. The app track tour progress and suggest what to study next.

In my opinion, I think this a great option to learn because most people would like to learning in a easy and fun way. Also that many of these apps can be downloaded for free, so you don't have to spend money. But if you want to have good results you have to use them. If you feel that you don't have enough time just practice for a few. Also, I recommend downloading just one for an specific goal you have.

The creativty of the mind mapping

Sometimes we have a lot of problems to understand a topic because we have a lot of information to take in, so is necesary to find a way to organize all of that information. And one of the most powerful and visual methods is mind mapping, a strategy that turns ideas into structured diagrams. By combining words, colors, and connections, mind mapping makes learning more engaging and easier to remember.

What is mind mapping?

Mind mapping is a technique used to visually organize information around a central idea. It helps because you can use key words instead of sentences, use colors to make it more engaging and images to help you understand. Also some benefits that it has are: improves memory, boosts creativity, organize the information and saves time.

How to make a mind map?

1) Start with a central idea: Write the main topic in the center of the page.

2) Add main branches: Draw lines for key ideas related to the topic.

3) Include subtopics: Add smaller branches with more details.

4)Use colors and images: This makes the map more memorable and engaging.

5) Keep it simple:Use short keywords instead of long sentences.

In my opinion, mind mapping is an easy and creative way to remember information because it helps you to organize better the information you have and has benefits, not only for the study, also it can help to boost your creativiy. For that reason, I think you should try it if you have problem of organization.

Spaced repetition: A smart way to learn and remember

We live in a world where students are constantly overwhelmed with information, so finding effective ways to study is more important than ever. One of the most effective and science-backed techniques is spaced repetition, a method that helps people remember information for the long term by reviewing it at strategic intervals.

What is spaced repetition?

Spaced repetition is a learning technique that involves going over the information multiple times over increasing intervals of time. So you just  have to look for the material just before you’re about to forget it. Starting by checking it right after learning it, then the next day, then a week later, each time increasing the time. This strengthens memory and improves retention.

The idea is based on the forgetting curve, a concept introduced by psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. His research showed that we forget information quickly if we don’t review it, but each review makes the memory stronger and longer-lasting. That's why the method is really useful, so we can use it to learn new languages, study for an exam, memorizing formulas and others.

In my opinion, spaced repetition is quite useful because it allows us to improve our memory without requiring much effort, avoiding stress and saving time. Furthermore, there are many apps that help you apply the technique correctly.

Key learning styles: understanding how we learn

Key Learning Styles: Understanding How We Learn Best

Every student learns in a different way. While some prefer reading and writing, others learn better through images, listening, or hands-on activities. These preferences are often described as learning styles, a concept that helps explain how individuals process and retain information. Understanding these styles can make studying more effective and enjoyable.

The four key learning styles:

Visual learners: They understand information best when it is presented through images, diagrams, charts, or videos.

Auditory Learners: They learn best by listening and speaking and they prefer the discussions and podcasts to learn.

Reading learners: They understand the information best when they can read it.

Kinesthetic learners: They learn through movement and hands-on experience.

It's important to know our learning styles because it help us to choose a study method for us. If you don't know which is your learning style you can try by experimenting with every style. You don't have to have only one, many people have more and that can help you to mix your styles and improve your learning.

In conclution, learning styles offer a useful way to understand how we process information, but they are not strict categories. The most effective learners are those who adapt and use multiple strategies. By exploring different approaches, you can discover how to learn more efficiently and make studying a more rewarding experience.
